Lara McCaffrey

Hi I'm Lara McCaffrey, a writer/wannabe musician in Southern California. This blog contains my photography, music and all my published articles including clips from my college zine "the sunshine can be oppressive". My work mostly focuses on government, community efforts for change, culture, media and popular music.

I was first inspired to write after my involvement with our college radio station, KSDT Radio at the University of California, San Diego. My work there exposed me to so many interesting people within the music scene that few knew about. I felt the need to write about them and share their visions with others.

Love Inks: A Successful Experiment

It is refreshing to find a band that wants to push boundaries and is constantly seeking to improve. Minimalist pop group Love Inks is that sort of band. Hailing from Austin, Texas, a town rich with loud electric music, Love Inks dares to be different with their stripped-down, short pop songs. The trio, made up of of singer Sherry LeBlanc, husband Kevin Dehan who plays bass and newcomer Derek Brown on guitar, often receives comparisons to The XX because of the soft vocals, simple drum beats, and uncomplicated melodies. Although they are flattered by the comparison, they are not looking to be like any particular band. They are constantly testing their hypothesis in an experiment to see how minimalist a pop song can get.
